With a hint of bourbon for an added kick, these Bacon Bourbon Doughnuts are a delightful blend of savory and sweet flavors. Perfect as a special dessert or for brunch!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 2/3 cup buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup bourbon
- 1/2 cup cooked and crumbled bacon
- Oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions:
In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg
In another bowl, combine buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and bourbon
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined
Fold in the crumbled bacon
Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350F 175C
Drop spoonfuls of the doughnut batter into the hot oil, frying until golden brown on both sides about 2-3 minutes per side
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels
Dust the doughnuts with powdered sugar while they're still warm
